There are some great outdoor activities and fun things to do in Penzance and beyond, so Venton Vean is the ideal base for those looking for an active and adventurous holiday.
Keen walkers will be spoiled for choice by some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain and the South West Coast Path (which enables you to walk the entirety of Cornwall’s coastline) is the perfect way to enjoy it. We can recommend our favourite walks around West Cornwall and the Land’s End Peninsular and use our local knowledge to plan a route for you – from leisurely seaside strolls to more challenging coastal hikes. And if you want to stop off at a traditional Cornish pub en route we can recommend a few of those too…
Penzance sits on the shores of Mount’s Bay and if you’re keen to get in the water, there are a wealth of watersports on offer nearby. Cornwall is synonymous with surfing and there are excellent surf schools at Sennen, St Ives and Hayle – all a short drive from Penzance. They teach all levels, from beginners with no previous experience to seasoned surfers looking to improve their skills, and are usually open from Easter to late October. Kayaking, kitesurfing and paddle boarding can also be arranged in Penzance and Mount’s Bay is an ideal location for watersports in Cornwall. We can provide more information depending on your needs and interests.
But you don’t have to have special equipment to enjoy the water – there are wonderful places for sea swimming in and around Penzance, including Battery Rocks, Prussia Cove and Pedn Vounder Beach. We also have the Jubilee Pool on Penzance Promenade. This huge Art Deco outdoor pool was built in 1935 and is considered one of the best fresh salt-water lidos in the world. It re-opened in 2016 following extensive renovations making it one of the most fun things to do in Penzance. Work has now started on geothermally heating part of the Pool – which will create an exciting year-round experience in Penzance from 2019.
We can also help you arrange fishing and wildlife expeditions from Penzance. The Marine Discovery catamaran offers wonderful wildlife spotting trips around Mount’s Bay and the coastline towards Land’s End. You are likely to spot seals and dolphins as well as an array of seabirds, and possibly even basking sharks and leatherback turtles.
Our delicious breakfasts are the perfect way to fuel an action-packed day exploring the coast and sea. And what could be better after a day of hiking, swimming or surfing than heading to a Cornish pub for locally-crafted beer and seafood caught on the doorstep. There are some great pubs and restaurants within walking distance of Venton Vean and even more out in the countryside. We can suggest some of our favourites and book ahead for you.
